Vagrantsong plunges players into a dark, captivating supernatural adventure aboard the mysterious Silver Ferryman, a ghost train doomed to wander between the world of the living and the world of the dead. In this cooperative narrative game, players take on the role of vagrants trapped aboard this haunted locomotive, where every car hides new dangers and tormented spirits called Haints.

The experience unfolds as a campaign made up of more than twenty interconnected scenarios. Each confrontation pits players against a unique Haint with its own mechanics, behaviors and special rules. Games quickly turn into strategic boss battles where cooperation and resource management are essential for survival.

On each turn, players spend their action coins to move around the train, search the cars, interact with the environment or use their special skills. But in Vagrantsong, simply defeating the Haints is not enough: players must also try to remind them of their lost humanity in order to free their spirit from the ghost train's grip.

The progression system adds tremendous depth to the campaign. After each scenario, the vagrants can improve their abilities, equip new skills and recover items found along the way. Each character therefore evolves differently depending on the group's choices and the events encountered aboard the Silver Ferryman.

The game's atmosphere is one of its greatest strengths. Its art style, inspired by American folklore and southern United States blues, creates an instantly recognizable visual identity. The hand-drawn illustrations constantly reinforce the strange, melancholic mood of this supernatural adventure.

Vagrantsong was in fact a finalist for the 2022 Golden Geek Awards in the Best Cooperative Game category, alongside titles such as Oathsworn: Into the Deepwood and Frostpunk: The Board Game. Interesting fact: the term "Haint," used to describe the game's ghosts, comes from southern United States folklore, where it traditionally refers to a wandering or malevolent spirit.

Vagrantsong was designed by Matt Carter, Justin Gibbs and Kyle Rowan, with striking illustrations by Nguyen Mai Diem, whose hand-painted style gives the haunted train its melancholic texture.
