*French version
Vagrantsong (FR) takes players aboard the mysterious Silver Ferryman, a ghost train trapped between the world of the living and the dead. In this immersive cooperative board game, players become wandering drifters imprisoned aboard the haunted locomotive, where every train car hides dangerous spirits known as Haints.
The experience unfolds through a campaign featuring more than twenty interconnected scenarios. Each confrontation introduces a unique Haint with its own mechanics, behaviors, and special rules. Every session becomes a tense tactical boss battle where teamwork and resource management are essential for survival.
During each turn, players spend action coins to move through the train, investigate strange locations, search for useful items, and activate powerful abilities. However, defeating the Haints is not enough. Players must also remind these spirits of their lost humanity in order to free them from the Silver Ferryman’s supernatural control.
The progression system adds tremendous depth to the campaign. After every scenario, players can upgrade abilities, equip new skills, and manage the strange junk collected during their journey. Each Vagrant evolves differently depending on the group’s decisions and the encounters experienced aboard the haunted train.
One of the game’s greatest strengths is its atmosphere. Inspired by American folklore and southern blues traditions, Vagrantsong delivers a haunting visual identity unlike almost anything else in modern tabletop gaming. Its hand-drawn artwork constantly reinforces the eerie and melancholic tone of the adventure.
You will likely enjoy Vagrantsong (FR) if you appreciate narrative cooperative games, evolving campaigns, and highly thematic adventures where every scenario tells a new story. Fans of games such as Mansions of Madness, Middara, or Gloomhaven will discover a more accessible yet deeply atmospheric experience here.
Vagrantsong was designed by Matt Carter, Justin Gibbs, and Kyle Rowan, with acclaimed artwork by Nguyen Mai Diem. The game was also nominated for the 2022 Golden Geek Award for Best Cooperative Game, highlighting the strength of its storytelling and cooperative gameplay systems.
An interesting fact: the word “Haint,” used throughout the game, originates from southern American folklore and traditionally refers to wandering or malicious spirits found in regional ghost stories and legends.
