The Trial of the Forest invites you deep into an ancient forest where animal adventurers compete to become the new Guardian of the Green Valley. On a board of winding paths that evolves as the game goes on, you explore mysterious locations, meet quirky creatures and write your own legend. Each turn, you choose your deeds: peacefully forage for berries, set out on expeditions to find lost artifacts, ambush a rival, surprise them with a cup of tea, shop for equipment or burn the store to the ground. Every deed improves your skills and earns you fame.

This light-strategy adventure game combines resource management, multi-use cards, skill progression and dice combat. Your moral choices decide whether you end up a hero or a villain, and only one adventurer can emerge victorious from the Trial. The result is a narrative adventure where every game tells a different story.

The Trial of the Forest is for you if you enjoy games where your decisions forge a unique story, if you like resource management with a touch of interaction (and friendly backstabbing) and if an enchanted forest atmosphere appeals to you. It is a great pick for game nights with 2, 3 or 4 players.

The game is by Giancarlo Spinelli, with illustrations by Anna "Mikado" Przybylska that bring the colorful forest wildlife to life. Released in 2026, it is a brand-new title to discover as soon as it arrives in store.
