Tekhenu: Obelisk of the Sun (FR) takes you four thousand years back to the eastern bank of the Nile, where the future temple of Karnak was rising as the largest religious complex of ancient Egypt. As the head of a noble family, you practice dice drafting at the foot of a towering obelisk whose shadow rotates every round, making some dice pure, others tainted, or outright forbidden depending on the section it lights. Each die you draft triggers an action tied to one of the six gods on the board - Horus, Ra, Hathor, Bastet, Thoth and Osiris - pushing you to produce resources, build workshops, carve columns or raise statues to grow your estate.

You'll likely enjoy Tekhenu: Obelisk of the Sun if you thrive on dense strategy games where every move must be weighed several turns ahead and where resource management keeps shifting with the obelisk's moving shadow. Fans of expert-level challenges, with tightly interlocking mechanisms and games that play out differently every time, will find plenty to sink their teeth into; players looking for a first board game experience should turn to something lighter.

Upon release, Tekhenu: Obelisk of the Sun gathered over 6,800 ratings on BoardGameGeek for an average of 7.7/10, ranking it among the best-rated board games set in ancient Egypt. It was also a finalist for the 2020 Golden Geek Heavy Game of the Year and the 2020 Cardboard Republic Tactician Laurel. The base box even includes a full solo mode with its own action tiles and an automated opponent, so you can take on the game by yourself.

The game is signed by the duo Daniele Tascini and Dávid Turczi: Tascini also designed Teotihuacan: City of Gods and Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar, while Turczi is known for Anachrony and for his many acclaimed solo mode adaptations. The illustrations of Karnak and its statues are by Michal Dlugaj, Jakub Fajtanowski, Zbigniew Umgelter and Aleksander Zawada. The game is published by Pixie Games for the French-language market.
