Nature invites you to build and evolve a living ecosystem, where every species must adapt to survive. In this modular board game, you guide an animal population through four rounds of growth, in a world where food is scarce and predators lurk. Each turn, you use your cards to grow your population, increase your species' body size, or give them new traits, like Fast to escape danger, Horned to defend yourself, or Carnivore to hunt your opponents. Then comes the feeding phase, where only the best-adapted species survive to the next round. The real magic of Nature lies in its modular system: by combining the various expansion modules available, over 700 different ecosystem configurations are possible, making this board game feel new every time you play.

You'll probably love Nature if you're looking for a strategy game with easy-to-learn rules but decisions that truly matter, if you enjoy watching your strategy shift from game to game, and if you want a game that keeps renewing itself through add-on modules. The built-in solo mode also makes it a great pick for playing alone against an automated opponent.

Nature is the successor to the celebrated Evolution, one of the most acclaimed games on the theme of animal survival. Its living game system keeps growing: beyond the six modules and four mini-modules already available (like Nature: Jurassic or Nature: Arctic Tundra), a new Climate module is planned for 2026, with one to two more modules promised every year for the next decade. The game also offers a free digital app (Nature Digital) with an interactive tutorial, and is playable on Board Game Arena and Steam.

Nature was designed by Dominic Crapuchettes, the mind behind the hugely popular Evolution as well as Wits & Wagers. The illustrations come from Catherine Hamilton, Alyssa McCarthy, and Nina Pommelin, who bring the creatures and landscapes of this ever-changing ecosystem to life.
