Mission: Red Planet (EN)
- In stock, ready to ship
On a Victorian-era Earth starved for resources, the race to Mars has just begun. In Mission: Red Planet, you take charge of a mining company ready to do anything to grab celerium, sylvanite, and Martian ice before your rivals do. Each round, you secretly deploy one of your nine specialists: the agent, the engineer, the daredevil, or the saboteur, each with a unique power that can flip the outcome of the round. You then load your astronauts onto rockets bound for the different regions of the red planet, never knowing for sure which resource awaits you once you land. Over the course of ten rounds, the zones fill up, the best-laid plans can collapse in an instant because of a well-timed card, and suspicion becomes your best weapon. With its modular board that changes Mars' layout every game and its completely reworked artwork for this new edition, this great classic of area control has never felt this dynamic.
Mission: Red Planet is for you if you love bluffing games where every opponent's move has to be second-guessed, if you prefer short, tense sessions with real territorial control, and if you don't mind watching a perfect plan crumble because another player was faster than you. With 2 to 6 players around the table, it's the ideal game for a night with friends who enjoy negotiating, bluffing, and the occasional betrayal.
Released in 2005, this game still draws crowds nearly twenty years later, with over 12000 ratings and an average score of 7.4 out of 10 on BoardGameGeek, where it ranks among the best-rated strategy games of any category. This new edition marks its twentieth anniversary with a brand new modular board and a completely rethought art direction, trading the steampunk look for a more modern sci-fi aesthetic.
The game is signed by the French duo Bruno Cathala and Bruno Faidutti, also behind the popular Diamant (Incan Gold), another classic where greed leads straight to disaster. The artwork for this new edition is the work of Derek Stenning, an artist well known in the video game world.
