June 6, 1944 marked a turning point in World War II, and Lightning: D-Day puts you in command of that decisive day. This war card game for two players recreates, beach by beach, the clash between the German divisions and the Allied units landing on the coast of Normandy. Each historic beach - Gold, Juno, Sword, Omaha and Utah - is represented by its own card, as are the forces defending it and those attacking it. In a single pass through the 110-card deck, the Allied player must manage resources to seize and hold each of the five beaches by day's end, while the opponent tries to tip the fate of the Normandy landings.

Tension rises with every card flipped, much like a close game riding on the final inning. An airborne division scattered by a bad drop, an armored counterattack breaking through a line you thought was solid: everything can change in an instant. A unit already committed to one beach cannot be called back in time to rush to the real danger zone, so both players must constantly think several cards ahead to avoid being caught off guard.

Lightning: D-Day is for you if you are looking for a wargame that plays in about thirty minutes without sacrificing the tension of a real battle. Its compact format and fast card-driven system make it a great choice for a game between two history buffs who do not have hours to spare, whether for a lunch break or a spur-of-the-moment game night.
