In the game, you send your villagers to do jobs such as exploring underground, harvesting resources, and building houses. Each villager has unique skills and abilities, and you have to decide how best to use them. You have your own village council and you dispatch villagers from that council to different locations to do their jobs. Will you send Hanna to explore the cave? Or should she instead spend her time teaching important skills to one of the young villagers?

A large cavern lies beneath the surface ready to be explored - this is where the storytelling comes in.

When you send a group of villagers to explore the depths, a player reads what happens to you in the encounter book. You'll have a variety of reactions to choose from, and your success will depend a lot on the villagers you brought on the expedition and the people you're willing to sacrifice to succeed. The encounter book is filled with picturesque situations and incredible adventures, chosen at random each time you visit the cavern.

At the end of the game, the player with the most developed village is declared the winner!
