Welcome to the busiest retirement home Jan van Haasteren ever dreamed up! This color-packed scene crowds dozens of endearing, wildly overactive senior citizens into one sunny common room. In one corner, a tropical fish tank draws a curious crowd while a checkers game unfolds close by. At the center of the room, a billiard table gathers the regulars, while wheelchairs and electric scooters zip between the groups, causing an entirely deliberate kind of chaos.

Further along, a cozy reading nook with a well-stocked bookshelf sits next to a painting corner, where freshly finished canvases, one proudly reading HAPPY PLACE, are proudly displayed. A small green hedge marks off an improvised garden corner, and a paper airplane glides past a doorway, a clear sign that mischief is brewing somewhere in this joyful madness. Every corner of the image hides another hilarious detail to discover, true to the unique cartoon puzzle style the series is famous for.

This 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle belongs to the famous Jan van Haasteren collection, also available as a 1500-piece edition under the same title, The Retirement Home. The series features dozens of equally dense and hilarious scenes, all starring the same cast of recurring characters from one puzzle to the next.

This puzzle carries the legendary Jan van Haasteren name, but the scene itself was drawn by illustrator Dick Heins, a member of Studio Jan van Haasteren. Trained alongside Jan van Haasteren himself, Dick Heins carries on the same eye for detail and comic timing that made the series famous.
