Imperium Classics puts you at the heart of Antiquity, leading one of eight great peoples who shaped history: Carthaginians, Celts, Greeks, Macedonians, Persians, Romans, Scythians, or Vikings. Each of these eight asymmetric civilizations has its own starting deck and its own strengths. Threatened from all sides, you must conquer new territories, drive scientific and cultural progress, and guide your people into the era of empire. Expand too fast and unrest spreads through your people; expand too slowly and you risk becoming a mere footnote in the history books.

The heart of the game is an original deckbuilding game: instead of drawing and discarding at random, you move your cards through your own deck to unlock increasingly powerful versions of your units, while eyeing the common cards on the central market to carve your own path to victory. On your turn you activate a card, innovate, or risk revolt, then clean up: a system that is simple to learn but leaves huge room for long-term planning.

Imperium Classics is for you if you are looking for a deep card game that plays just as well solo as with a group, if you enjoy optimizing a deck that evolves before your eyes instead of drawing at random, and if leading an ancient civilization from its first steps to its peak sounds appealing. The solo mode gives each of the eight nations its own automated opponent, making this a top pick if you often play by yourself.

The game is also compatible with Imperium: Legends and Imperium: Horizons: you can combine the boxes to pit up to eight additional civilizations against each other.

Imperium Classics is designed by Nigel Buckle, also behind Voidfall, and David Turczi, well known in the board game community for the quality of his solo modes. The illustrations are by Mihajlo Dimitrievski, who gives each of the eight civilizations a distinct look. The game is published by Osprey Games.
