Dive into the scorching sands of North Africa with Lightning: North Africa, a card game of solo or head-to-head warfare that recreates Erwin Rommel's campaigns from 1941 to 1943. In roughly thirty minutes, you move Afrika Korps or Allied units, manage their supply lines from Europe, and race to take Tobruk before your opponent does. The streamlined system rewards planning and bluffing over raw firepower: a smaller, well-maneuvered force can topple a bigger one, just like in the real desert war.
You'll probably love Lightning: North Africa if you're into fast-to-learn, decision-rich wargames, if the idea of playing Rommel one moment and Commonwealth forces the next appeals to you, and if you're after a card duel you can finish in one sitting instead of a whole evening.
This title belongs to the Lightning series, known among wargamers for its condensed rules and setups that take just minutes, without sacrificing tactical depth. The clash features units well known from the North African theater: the Afrika Korps, the Desert Rats, the defense of Malta, and the anti-tank guns that defined this war of movement.
The design is credited to Dan Verssen, known for fast-playing solo wargames, with the Lightning series and Hornet Leader among the genre's staples for solitaire wargamers.
