Lightning: Midway throws you straight into one of the most decisive naval battles of World War II. Two players face off in a lightning-fast card duel: one commands the American fleet and its three aircraft carriers, the other leads the Imperial Japanese Navy and its four aircraft carriers. Each card represents an attack squadron, a reconnaissance mission, or one of the ships in play, and a full game wraps up in about 30 minutes.

The system is simple but tense: you launch reconnaissance planes to spot the enemy fleet, then commit your squadrons to try to sink the other side's carriers before yours go down. Some attacks find their target, others miss completely, and sometimes the enemy shows up over your fleet without warning. The outcome of the battle often hinges on the card drawn at just the right moment.

Lightning: Midway is part of the Lightning series, a family of card-driven war games built to deliver complete historical battles in about half an hour. Designer Dan Verssen has more than a hundred published game credits to his name, including his very first design, Modern Naval Battles, which won the Charles S. Roberts Award for best modern game in 1989. That same passion for naval conflict carries into Lightning: Midway, which recreates the Battle of Midway of June 1942 card by card.
