Innovation (FR) takes you on a journey to build a civilization from prehistory all the way to a near future, one card at a time. No board, no dice, no miniatures: just 115 innovations, from the wheel to computers, spread across eleven ages. Every card you play stacks into your tableau and grants a unique power, while the icons you have in view decide who benefits (or suffers) from other players' inventions. You constantly juggle between racing your civilization toward the later ages and squeezing every drop of value out of what is already on the table, since a single well-timed card can flip an entire game. This civilization card game is won by claiming achievements, either by piling up points or by meeting specific requirements tied to the innovations you have built. No two games of Innovation ever play the same way.

Innovation is for you if you love card games that reward split-second tactics just as much as long-term planning, if you get a thrill from dramatic swings of fortune, and if you do not mind a healthy dose of (sometimes vicious) interaction with your opponents. It is also a great pick if you want a compact, quick-to-set-up game that still delivers a dense strategic experience without a giant board on the table.

Innovation is no ordinary card game: it won the Golden Geek Award for Best Card Game in 2010, was also a finalist for Most Innovative Board Game that same year, and picked up a Meeples Choice Award. This 4th Edition pushes things even further by adding an entire eleventh age (Prudence) on top of the original ten, plus brand new artwork on every single card.

Behind this clever little machine is Carl Chudyk, a designer known for card games that bend the usual rules: he is also the mind behind Glory to Rome, another cult favorite where every card can play several different roles at once. You can feel his signature all over Innovation: rules that look simple on the surface but hide an impressive amount of strategic depth.
