Ashes Ascendancy opens a brand new door into the world of Ashes, Plaid Hat Games' expandable card game series that has been fueling magical duels for ten years. In this starter set, you take on the role of a Phoenixborn, a demigod protector of Argaia, rolling dice each round to power your spells and summon allies and magical creatures straight out of your imagination. Two pre-built decks let you face a friend in a tight head-to-head duel or team up against a game-controlled opponent: Scatha Kalani, the very first Dragonborn in the series, a fearsome boss built for solo and cooperative play. This expandable card game needs no deck-building beforehand: everything is ready to go the moment you open the box, driven by tight hand management, icon-based dice rolls, and asymmetric powers that reward reading your opponent and pulling off well-timed combos.

Ashes Ascendancy is for you if you love tight card duels where every dice reroll shifts the momentum, if you want a simple way into a well-known expandable card universe without sorting through hundreds of secondhand cards, and if fighting a Dragonborn boss solo or in co-op sounds just as appealing as a good head-to-head match. Fans of hand management, bluffing, and spell-and-creature synergies will find a rich playground from the very first game.

The Ashes series just turned ten, and Ashes Ascendancy uses the milestone to turn the page: instead of digging through a library of more than 600 cards built up since 2015, new players can start fresh with this starter set designed as a single entry point, while a print-on-demand system lets veterans rebuild their favorite decks. Scatha Kalani, included in the box, is also the very first Dragonborn in the whole franchise, a brand new type of opponent controlled by the game itself.

Design duties go to Nick Conley, already known for several beloved expansions in the series such as The Artist of Dreams and the cooperative Red Rains campaign, so he knows the world of Ashes inside out. Artwork comes from a four-artist team, including Ade Surya and the studios Gunship Revolution, Polar Engine, and Sonderflex, responsible for the expressive Phoenixborn faces and the creatures roaming Argaia.
