Florian Fafa is the most famous painter in the capital. He paints only in green. Nothing but green. His portraits are green. His sunsets are green. His self-portrait is green, and he says it’s a good likeness. His big project, for twenty years now: “50 nuances de fougères,” fifty paintings of ferns, each one a different green.
He has painted 49. To everyone else, they all look the same. To Amandra, they’re masterpieces. Amandra is his biggest fan. She painted her house green. Her cat is a little green (she swears it’s natural). She can recognize each of the 49 shades with her eyes closed. By smell.
(The Dungeon Master, from behind the screen: at the capital’s Grand Musée, the critics spent two hours in front of the 49 paintings. Their verdict: “Green.” Amandra cried in front of every single one. The guard now brings her tissues. Green ones.)
The problem was the fiftieth painting. Florian couldn’t find the last shade. He mixed every pot he had. He searched every forest. He even tried painting with pea soup. Nothing. The exhibition opened in three days, with an empty frame in the middle of the wall.
On opening night, Amandra finally dared to approach him. She had prepared a twelve-page speech. Florian turned around, smiled at her and said: “Oh! You’re the one who comes to all my exhibitions? Thank you.” Amandra turned green. Not a little. Completely. A soft, shy green, with blue highlights. A green nobody had ever seen.
Florian dropped his glass. He grabbed his brush. He painted Amandra, right there in front of everyone, in four minutes. The fiftieth painting is called “Blushing Fern.” It’s green.
(The Dungeon Master, with a smirk: the critics found the fiftieth painting a little greener than the others. That’s something. Amandra kept her twelve-page speech. She reads him a little bit of it every Sunday.)
On Florian’s palette that night were seven drops of dried paint, forest green with bluish highlights, glittering, with white numbers. The 50 nuances de fougères dice (“50 shades of ferns”) were born. They’re perfect for druids, artists and players who can tell forest green from moss green at a glance.
In glittery forest green acrylic with bluish highlights and white numbers, these polyhedral dice are perfect for your Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder or any roleplaying game (RPG). A green dice set. But not just any green.
