At the turn of the 20th century, a curse has plagued you ever since your last voyage, and there is only one way to break it: return to this uncharted seventh continent and face its mysteries. The 7th Continent (FR) is a narrative adventure game where every card you draw writes a new chapter of your story, much like a choose-your-own-adventure book. Alone or with up to four players in cooperative mode, you set out to explore a hostile land of dense forests, frozen plains and forgotten ruins, searching for clues that will help you unravel the secret of your curse.
There is no fixed board or classic turn order here: the territory builds itself in front of you, card by card, revealing forests, caves and ruins as you progress. You must manage your health, inventory and stamina while practicing crafting to build the tools that will ensure your survival. Thanks to a save system built right into the cards, you can pause your game at any moment and pick your adventure back up exactly where you left off, with a single box able to keep you occupied for dozens of hours of play.
The 7th Continent is for you if you love stories that unfold slowly, choices that carry real weight, and the thrill of discovering a world without ever knowing what the next card will reveal. If you prefer short, fast-paced games, or if reading a lot of text during play doesn't appeal to you, this one might be less your speed: here, immersion and patience are rewarded far more than raw speed.
On BoardGameGeek, The 7th Continent has gathered over 23,000 ratings for an average score close to 7.7/10, placing it among the top 200 board games listed on the site across all genres, and in the top 50 thematic games. The game offers more than 1000 minutes of narrative content spread across multiple play sessions, a scope rarely matched in the exploration-survival genre.
The game was created by French duo Ludovic Roudy and Bruno Sautter, co-founders of the studio behind it: Roudy also handles all the illustrations that give the continent its distinctive atmosphere, while Sautter oversees production. The same duo later designed The 7th Citadel, an independent narrative adventure game that carries the exploratory spirit of their first creation into an entirely different world.
