Star Realms (EN)

In Star Realms, the galaxy is at war and you command a fleet ready to do whatever it takes to survive. This space deck-building game pits two players against each other as they build their armadas card by card. Each player starts with 50 Authority and a small 10-card deck: 8 Scouts and 2 Vipers. In the middle of the table, a row of five cards offers new ships and bases to recruit with your Trade points.

Each turn, you play your hand, generating Trade to buy better ships and Combat to strike your opponent. Bases stay in play until they are destroyed, outposts protect your side, and cards marked with a trash can symbol can be scrapped for a satisfying bonus. Four factions with very different styles clash: the Trade Federation, the Blobs, the Star Empire and the Machine Cult. The goal is simple: reduce your rival's Authority to zero before they do the same to you. Games are fast, tense and always leave you wanting a rematch.

Star Realms is for you if you are looking for a two-player card game that plays in about twenty minutes, if you enjoy upgrading your deck and if the idea of a twist-filled space combat makes you smile. It is also an excellent gateway into deck-building: the rules are simple, but the combinations between factions offer plenty of depth.

The game won a 2014 Golden Geek for Best 2-Player Board Game and a 2014 Golden Geek for Best Card Game, then the SXSW Tabletop Game of the Year title in 2015. It was designed by Robert Dougherty and Darwin Kastle and published in 2014. Many expansions are available to grow your collection.
