Soul of the Empire (pré-joué) (EN)

Rome is at the height of its power, but the empire is torn by internal divisions and threatened from the outside. In Soul of the Empire, an asymmetric strategy game for 2 to 4 players, you take on the Romans, the Christians, the Jews or the Coalition (Germanic tribes, Goths and Parthians) in the first century. Each side has its own strengths, weaknesses and objectives.

Each turn is built around dice-driven action selection. Combat is deterministic and modified by the effects unique to each faction, and culturally-based Power card decks shake up the balance of power. The game ends when a player fulfills their faction's special victory condition or reaches 7 objective points. A tense conquest game where every faction tells a different worldview.

Soul of the Empire is for you if you enjoy area control games with variable player powers, if you want a thematic game where every player has a unique way of playing, and if a two-hour game does not scare you. Bring a group ready to dive into meaty rules.

The game was funded on Kickstarter. It was designed by Heath Stockburn, with illustrations by Kenneth Spond. It also plays with two: one player takes the Romans or the Coalition, and the other one of the remaining factions. With three players, one of the players must play the Romans.
