Gather your companions and hold the line in Shadowrift, a cooperative fantasy deckbuilding game where a horde of monsters pours through the shadow rifts to raze the town of Haven. You all begin with the same small deck of basic heroes, able to explore and to strike. Then, turn after turn, you buy new cards that define you as an adventurer - spells, attacks, skills and loot - and that complement the strengths of your allies. No one plays a predetermined hero: it is by building your deck that you decide who you become.

What sets Shadowrift apart from other deckbuilders is its intense cooperation. There is constant interaction between players: you share the villagers who arrive in town, you offer your coins to help build walls, and you seek healing from anyone who has learned magic. Three resources drive the game - Prowess, Magic and Coins - and every monster you defeat earns Heroism, a powerful wild card that makes your hero better at everything. The Next Heroism token passes around the table so this reward is spread out evenly.

But the monsters do not sit patiently waiting to be slain. Leave them be and they move through town, kill villagers, break walls and kick your heroes in the face, growing worse with every space they cross. You have only two paths to victory: seal every shadow rift using Seal cards and Magic, or raise the eight walls that turn Haven into an unbreakable fortress. Use up all the Corpse cards, empty the town of its villagers and walls, or let a monster trigger Annihilation, and the whole team loses.

Shadowrift is for you if you love demanding cooperative games where every decision is made as a team, and if the blend of deckbuilding and town defense appeals to you. You will appreciate the tension that builds throughout the game, the six monster factions that force different strategies, and the original mechanic where you build both your own deck and the shared town deck.

This 2nd edition refines the experience deeply: a new system determines how monsters choose their targets, based on types of villagers rather than specific people, and the revised monster powers make them far more dangerous. The card layout has been reworked and the artwork has been greatly expanded and improved. The game offers an excellent solo mode that resets quickly to jump into a game with more players.

Shadowrift was designed by Jeremy Anderson, who built here a cooperative deckbuilder known for its strong player interaction and its high replayability. Several expansions extend the adventure, such as Archfiends, Skittering Darkness, Eve of the Sickle Moon and Boomtown, for those who want to face new threats.
