Qomet (ML)

On a starry board of 25 spaces linked by lines, two sharp minds face off with a single goal: form the perfect square before their opponent. Qomet is a stripped-down yet demanding abstract strategy game, where every wooden star placed or moved can flip the game in an instant. On your turn, place a new star of your color on the board or move a star you already have in play along a connected line. If the target space is occupied, you can push the star sitting there, no matter its color, even sending it off the board to slow your opponent down. Easy to pick up, Qomet hides surprising tactical depth: anticipating possible squares, protecting your own formations and disrupting your opponent's takes real awareness of the whole board. Each game lasts about 15 minutes, making it a quick game perfect for rematch after rematch without any downtime.

Qomet is for you if you enjoy pure battles of wits, with no luck and no cards to read, where every move counts. If you already love chess, Hex or Quoridor, you will recognize that thrill of thinking several moves ahead while keeping an eye on your opponent's plans. It is also a great pick if you want a compact two-player game that is quick to set up and put away, just as satisfying in a single 15-minute round as in a string of rematches.

Qomet came from a discovery designer Fabrice Puleo stumbled on in 2023: the ancient board layout of the game of mill, shared on social media. Rather than remaking that classic, he used its board as inspiration for a brand new idea: connecting points with lines to form squares. The prototype, first called TOSQUARE, had its rules locked in within minutes, then went through local playtesting before being pitched at the International Games Festival in Cannes in 2024. The wooden stars that populate the board, inspired by star charts, went through no fewer than 23 versions before reaching their final shape.

Qomet was designed by Fabrice Puleo, who built an abstract game meant to be learned in minutes yet hard to fully master. His approach, built around minimalist rules and evocative components, follows in the footsteps of the genre's classics while adding a pushing mechanic all its own.
