It's election year in Chicago, and you're an ambitious politician ready to do whatever it takes to land the mayor's chair. In Mayor of Chicago (FR), a solo card game, every turn hands you a tight choice: does the card you drew become a new neighborhood, laid face-up to expand your city grid, or do you flip it over to hire the assistant hiding on the back and cash in on their special power? Fedora-wearing eagles, pin-striped elephants and trench-coat bears populate this retro, prohibition-era vibe, where every dollar, every ounce of popularity and every bit of power counts. Watch out for corruption: it creeps up on anyone who splashes booze around to grease a future ally's palm, and it always comes due when the votes are tallied.

Your game ends once the 45-card deck runs dry and every assistant you've hired has been placed in the city. All that's left is to count your votes and see whether you managed to unseat the incumbent mayor, picked from among eight opponents of climbing difficulty. Six event cards shuffle each playthrough along the way, keeping the outcome uncertain right down to the very last card.

And behind this pocket-sized format hides a delightful visual world: eagles, elephants and bears in three-piece suits play both candidates and assistants, in a knowing wink to the prohibition era.
