A monster has been terrorizing a small town for weeks, and a bounty now hangs over its head. A handful of bounty hunters gather at dusk in front of the abandoned mansion where the creature is said to lair, each one hoping to walk away with the reward. What none of them know is that one of their own is not human at all: the beast itself is hiding under the guise of an ordinary hunter, ready to strike from the shadows. Hunt: The Unknown Quarry drops you into a chase where predator and prey keep trading places, and where a single revealed card can give away an identity.
Each round, you move your pawn through the mansion's modular rooms, spread across three double-sided floors, search locations for clues and Item cards, then confront other players to try to expose their secret. Behind your player screen, you quietly jot down your deductions on your sheet while tension builds around the table: is it the player next to you hiding monstrous powers, or are you the one the whole group is starting to suspect? This social deduction game runs on bluffing, memory, and observation: every card played reveals a bit of truth, but also a bit of risk.
You'll likely enjoy Hunt: The Unknown Quarry if you love game nights where suspicion creeps around the table and hunting down the hidden traitor among your friends feels like real detective work. Fans of hidden-identity mechanics will appreciate this mix of movement, card management, and psychological combat, where reading people matters as much as reading your cards.
Fun fact: this monster hunt reached beyond the tabletop, as Hunt: The Unknown Quarry was later adapted into a video game on Steam that stays faithful to the original rules. The modular mansion, built from combinable double-sided boards, changes layout every game, so no hunt ever plays out quite the same way twice.
The game was designed by Jeremy Lennert, also known for Darkest Night, another well-regarded cooperative game built around hidden roles and risk management; the artwork comes from Clark Miller, whose illustrations give the mansion its unsettling atmosphere.
