A mischievous curse just turned you into a tiny adventurer, and the only way out belongs to a recluse who hates heroes. Welcome to Gloomhaven: Buttons & Bugs (FR), a solo game that drops you into a brand new campaign taking place after the events of Gloomhaven and its expansion Forgotten Circles. Shrunk down at the doorstep of the Crooked Bone, you must cross a world crawling with giant bugs and unexpected dangers to convince Hail, the reclusive sorceress, to return you to your normal size.

Each scenario fits on a single card and pits your mercenary against a handful of enemies run by a simplified AI, for tactical combat that wraps up in barely twenty minutes. Your hand holds only four double-sided cards per character, but each one can be used twice before being discarded, forcing you to optimize every move. Die rolls combine with a modifier table that grows with you: the further you advance in the narrative campaign, the stronger your mercenary becomes, all in a compact format that is easy to carry around.

Gloomhaven: Buttons & Bugs (FR) is for you if you love the tactical feel of Gloomhaven but do not have the space or the time to bring out the base game's massive box. It is also the ideal companion for evenings when you want a real solo strategic challenge, quick to set up and easy to put away, without ever sacrificing the depth of the combat.

This small format has not stopped Buttons & Bugs from standing out: the game was a finalist for the 2024 Golden Geek Best Solo Board Game award, a rare recognition for such a compact box. The version sold here goes even further, since it directly includes four bonus promotional scenarios (Arena Challenge, Another Tale, Beast Tamer, and Narrow Escape), usually reserved for crowdfunding campaigns.

The story behind this miniature adventure was written by Isaac Childres, the creator behind Gloomhaven and Frosthaven, while the compact game system was designed by Joe Klipfel and Nikki Valens. The artwork of the shrunken-down world is by Yanis Cardin and Mofei Wang.
