Flip 7: Nightmare Before Christmas invites you to join Jack Skellington and the citizens of Halloweentown as they plan their spine-chilling takeover of Christmas. The core idea stays true to the original card game Flip 7, dressed up in this spooky-festive mashup: on your turn, you flip cards one at a time to rack up points, except the deck is deliberately "odd," with only one 1 card, two 2's, three 3's, and so on. The further you push, the higher the odds of flipping a number you already have, and that means a bust: you lose everything you banked that round. Special cards keep stirring the pot, with Oogie Boogie freezing a player in their tracks, a Santa figure captured by Halloweentown granting a second chance, and Jack Skellington himself forcing everyone to flip three cards at once. A Zero card, featuring Jack's loyal ghost dog, also joins the deck to add one more twist to the scoring.
You will probably love Flip 7: Nightmare Before Christmas if you want a party card game that sets up in seconds, gets the whole table shouting "one more card!", and works just as well for cautious players as for reckless risk-takers. Whether your night leans more Halloween or more Christmas, this game earns its spot on the table from October straight through December 25, thanks to a theme that pokes fun at both holidays at once.
Right on the box, there is even a little visual joke: the word "Christmas" is crossed out and swapped for "Halloween." The wink is not random: the original Flip 7 already picked up the Golden Geek Award for Best Party Game and the Origins Award in the same category, on top of a Spiel des Jahres nomination. That track record explains why this addictive formula was reworked into the world of Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas.
The game is designed by Eric Olsen, the creator of the original Flip 7, this time with artwork by O'Neil Mabile, whose bold black linework and autumn color palette fit Halloweentown's look and feel perfectly.
