Players find themselves in a small, weakened colony in a world now populated by monsters hungry for fresh flesh. Each player leads two survivors among dozens of different characters in the game.

Dead of Winter is a cooperative or semi-cooperative psychological survival game. Each player works with the others to survive the different crises and complete the storyline, but they must also complete their personal secret objective. This objective may relate to a psychological tick that could pass for quite harmless to the rest of the colony…. unless it turns into a dangerous obsession that could put the main objective in jeopardy... unless it's a desire to sabotage the main mission or, worse, revenge against the colony!

Some scenarios could end up with all players winning, all players losing, or only part winning. Work towards the group's goal, but don't be the one being walked over by a loudmouth who only serves his own interests!

Dead of Winter is therefore a story game centered on survival through a harsh winter in an apocalyptic world. The survivors all grapple with their own psychological imperatives, but must still find a way to work together to combat outside threats, resolve crises, find food and supplies, and keep their spirits up...
