Madame Clairevoyante is the fortune teller at the entrance to Saint-Glinglin. For years, she read the future in a crystal ball. One day, it was discovered that her crystal ball was actually a giant D20. She didn’t change her method. Her predictions stayed the same: vague, mysterious, and right one time out of twenty.
One morning, a little green snake settled under her table. He was very polite. He explained that he was looking for work. His venom didn’t hurt at all: a little bite that tickles, and then, for one second, you see the future. The real one. In full detail. He called it his pleasant venom of the future.
(The Dungeon Master, checking their notes: there’s a small problem with this venom. It shows the future, that’s true. But only the next five minutes of it. Nobody has ever seen their destiny. Mostly, you see who’s about to sneeze.)
Madame Clairevoyante hired him anyway. The first customer was a farmer. The snake bit him. The farmer saw the future and shouted: “My cow is going to moo!” Three minutes later, his cow mooed. The farmer left deeply shaken. The second customer saw that he was going to drop his apple. He dropped it. He paid double.
People came from everywhere. They wanted to know their future, even a tiny one. “You’re going to feel a little cold.” “You’re going to find a button.” “Your hat is about to blow away, catch it on the left.” And every time, it was true. The line went all the way around the village. Madame Clairevoyante had never made so much money in her life.
One evening, she wanted to know her own future. She held out her arm. The snake bit her. For one second, she saw clearly what would happen to her in the next five minutes: a little green snake was going to bite her. She looked at her arm. It had already happened. She found that very profound.
(The Dungeon Master, with a smirk: one day the snake bit himself, out of curiosity. He saw himself biting himself. He’s still trying to figure it out. Madame Clairevoyante now predicts things with five-minute precision. Her customers say it’s more reliable than the D20.)
With her first profits, Madame Clairevoyante treated herself to seven dice as black as the heart of a mystery, with numbers as green as her employee. The Venin avenant de l’avenir dice (“the pleasant venom of the future”) were born. They’re perfect for fortune tellers, well-mannered snakes and players who already know they’re going to miss their roll.
In opaque black acrylic with green numbers, these polyhedral dice are perfect for your Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder or any roleplaying game (RPG). A dice set that predicts your future. In five minutes, you’re going to roll them.
