Brindamour is a pink dragon from Mont Grondeur. His breath doesn’t burn: it smells like mint. He’s invited to every festival at the Thirsty Dwarf tavern, where he freshens the air and cools down the arguments. He’s paid in sugar. He’s very kind. He has never had a single drop of alcohol in his life.
One evening, Captain Barbe-Grise walked into the tavern. Barbe-Grise is an old retired pirate with three wooden legs (nobody knows why three) and a barrel of rum from the Sea of Mists under his arm. He wanted to celebrate something. He couldn’t remember what. He bought a round of rum for the whole tavern. Including the dragon.
(The Dungeon Master, without looking up from the screen: a dragon is thirty metres long. A glass of rum is three centimetres tall. Brindamour did the math and asked for the barrel. Barbe-Grise thought that was reasonable. He’s a pirate.)
Brindamour drank the barrel in one go. He paused for a moment. Then he got the hiccups. The first hiccup blew a puff of mint over the tavern. The second, a puff of mint and rum. On the third, something mixed together in his dragon belly, and he spat out a flame. A real one. Blue. It smelled like a mojito.
The flame lit every candle in the tavern at once, then the fireplace, then the lanterns in the street. Barbe-Grise applauded. The customers applauded. Brindamour was mortified: he had just breathed fire for the first time in his life, and he had the hiccups. Every hiccup made a flame. He spent the night in the yard, hiccuping at the sky like a firework that keeps apologizing.
The next morning, the tavern keeper had found the solution: she set Brindamour up behind the counter, next to the grill. Every customer wanted their meat “dragon-flambéed.” The hiccups lasted three days. The tavern had never sold so many skewers. Brindamour swore he would never drink rum again. He kept his word. He drinks mint milk.
(The Dungeon Master, writing it down in their notebook: Barbe-Grise asked for a discount for “supplying the fuel.” He didn’t get one. He left with an empty barrel and a slightly singed beard.)
At the bottom of the barrel, Barbe-Grise found seven deep blue dice, pearly like the sea in the moonlight, with numbers as golden as a rum flame. The Rhum & Dragons dice (“rum & dragons”) were born. They’re perfect for pirates, tavern dragons and players who celebrate every natural 20 a little too loudly.
In pearly royal blue acrylic with gold numbers, these polyhedral dice are perfect for your Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder or any roleplaying game (RPG). A dice set best enjoyed in moderation. Hiccups last three days.
