This expansion is part of a brand-new line of Codenames mini-expansions launched in 2026, designed to let players customize their games without buying a whole new box. Beyond the new words, the pack throws in 4 fairy-tale-themed pictures compatible with Codenames: Pictures, for groups who also own that picture-based variant.
This expansion comes from Vlaada Chvatil, the original creator of Codenames, also known for wildly different games like Through the Ages and Galaxy Trucker. Here he delivers a playful nod to the world of fairy tales, staying true to the clever spirit that made the series a hit.
To play, you already need a copy of Codenames or Codenames: Duet (this is not a stand-alone game): the new cards simply mix into your base set. The 4 bonus pictures, for their part, are meant for Codenames: Pictures owners.
