Venture into the Nilgiri biosphere in southern India, a region teeming with unique plants and animals. In Biomes of Nilgiris, you play a conservation specialist (ecologist, photographer or citizen scientist) who roams the land to discover new species, solve ecological problems and complete conservation missions. Each turn, you pick three actions out of eight: travel on the modular board, explore to reveal new biome cards, journal your observations in a field guide, study to turn those notes into experience points, discover species, equip yourself and conserve species and habitats to earn ecology points.
Every game offers two different scenarios that players must adapt to together, bringing fresh concepts and objectives each time. The result is a mission-driven strategy game that celebrates the beauty of nature and the art of conservation. It plays just as well solo as with up to four players.
Biomes of Nilgiris is for you if you enjoy nature-themed and exploration games, like planning your actions to get the most out of your turn, or want a refreshing solo adventure. A board that grows as you play and varied scenarios make you want to come back. Note that the game is intended for players aged 14 and up.
The game is set in the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, a vast protected area in southern India, and features real species and their habitats. The main board is mostly used for scoring, while the real playing area is built from the biome cards you add as you explore. Two expansions already exist: Special Species and You Have a Mission.
Biomes of Nilgiris was designed by Sidhant Chand and Shelly Sinha, and illustrated by Sanjana Singh.
