Welcome to Bella Vista, a charming town crossed by rivers and dotted with lush parks. Behind its peaceful appearance, however, is a fierce competition between architects. In this city-building game, your objective is clear: construct your eight buildings in the most profitable locations, complete lucrative contracts, and finish the game with more money than your rivals.
Each round begins with a crucial decision: how important is it to build before everyone else? Architects compete for their position in the construction order, and securing priority can be expensive. Spending more may let you claim the perfect location before an opponent takes it, but every coin you invest is a coin that no longer directly contributes to your fortune. Bella Vista creates a constant tension between acting quickly and preserving your wealth.
When it is finally your turn to build, building placement becomes a tactical puzzle. City Hall imposes construction restrictions that limit your available locations, while contracts and objectives encourage you to pursue particular configurations. Height matters too: each of your eight buildings has its own height, numbered from 1 to 8, and its relationship with neighbouring structures can directly affect your income.
The town itself evolves as colourful 3D buildings appear throughout its neighbourhoods. Neighbourhood, River, and Park tiles create a modular game board, changing the urban landscape and available opportunities from one game to the next. The ideal location for your strategy may also be exactly where an opponent wants to build. You need to watch their intentions, anticipate which spaces could disappear, and decide how far you are willing to go to secure priority.
Bella Vista is for you if you enjoy accessible family strategy games that hide meaningful dilemmas behind relatively straightforward rules. You will especially enjoy competing for prime locations, managing construction order, and watching a three-dimensional town gradually take shape on the table. The game ends once every architect has constructed all eight buildings. In Bella Vista, however, creating the prettiest town is not enough: the richest architect wins.
Bella Vista stands out thanks to its 32 three-dimensional buildings and modular play area. Buildings are numbered according to their height, and their footprints vary, with lower structures taking up more ground space. Variable objectives and changing town configurations also create new decisions from game to game, giving this city-building board game plenty of replay value.
Bella Vista was designed by Bruno Cathala and Andrea Mainini, illustrated by Weirdloop and Cyrille Bertin, and published by Studio H.
