Catan (EN): Cities & Knights is the expansion that turns your peaceful island into a strategic battlefield. Dark clouds are gathering: hordes of barbarians are sailing toward Catan, and only well-trained knights can protect your cities. You turn your towns into fortified cities; you use commodities (cloth, paper, coins) to improve your cities and recruit knights that you must activate with grain. Every turn brings its share of decisions and suspense thanks to the event die, several sides of which advance the barbarian ship.
This Catan expansion adds 54 Progress cards, city walls, metropolises and a merchant. The first to reach 13 victory points wins, but beware of neglecting your cities' defense against the barbarians!
Cities & Knights is for you if you already know Catan and want a deeper strategy game with more tension and long-term choices. You will likely enjoy it if your base-game sessions now feel too predictable and you want more challenge.
First published in 1998, this expansion introduces metropolises, which are placed on a city, are worth two extra victory points and are safe from barbarians.
Author Klaus Teuber, the creator of Catan, designed this expansion, illustrated notably by Michael Menzel and Franz Vohwinkel.
What you need to play: this expansion is not a standalone game and requires the base game Catan (EN). To play with 5 or 6 players, you also need the Cities & Knights 5/6 Player Expansion (EN). Dice are not included.
