Barrage is a heavy strategy board game where resource management reaches a new level of depth. Set in a dystopian 1930s Europe, hydroelectric power is the most valuable resource, and companies compete to dominate the rivers and produce energy.
At its core, the game features a unique resource management game system where you build dams, raise them to increase capacity, channel water through conduits, and power your turbines. Water is a shared and limited resource, and once it flows, it is gone - creating constant tension and competition between players.
One of the standout mechanics is the construction wheel: resources you spend are locked for several turns before returning, forcing you to plan carefully and think ahead. You will also recruit engineers, acquire patents, and develop your economic engine to outperform your rivals.
Over five rounds, players complete contracts, advance on the energy track, and expand their industrial network across a contested alpine region. Player interaction is high, as every move can impact the flow of water and the opportunities available to others.
You will enjoy Barrage if you are looking for a strategic board game that is deep, demanding, and highly interactive. It is a must-have for expert players who enjoy long-term planning and optimization.
Interesting fact: Barrage has won multiple international awards and is widely considered one of the top modern heavy euro games thanks to its innovative time and resource management system.
Designed by Tommaso Battista and Simone Luciani, with artwork by Mauro Alocci, Antonio De Luca, and Roman Roland Kuteynikov, Barrage delivers a rich and challenging experience.
