Skyjo (FR) is an easy-to-learn yet surprisingly strategic card game where the goal is to score as few points as possible.
Each player manages a personal grid of 12 cards arranged in a 3 by 4 layout, with only two cards revealed at the start. On your turn, you either take the top card from the discard pile or draw a face-down card, then decide whether to swap it with one of your cards or discard it. Every decision shapes your final score and affects the tempo of the round.
Tension builds as more cards are revealed. One of Skyjo’s most satisfying rules allows players to discard an entire column when all three cards in that column have the same value, instantly reducing their score. A round ends when one player has revealed all their cards, after which all remaining players take one final turn before scoring.
You will enjoy Skyjo if you are looking for an accessible family card game, if you enjoy games built around risk and opportunity, or if you want a highly replayable game that flows smoothly from one round to the next. Its blend of luck, memory, and tactical choices makes it a favorite for casual game nights and mixed-experience groups.
An interesting fact: Skyjo cards range from -2 to 12, allowing for negative scores and bold strategies. The game ends once a player reaches 100 points or more, and the player with the lowest total score wins, keeping the outcome uncertain until the very end.
Skyjo was designed and illustrated by Alexander Bernhardt. Its clean design and elegant mechanics have helped it become a modern classic among family board games worldwide.
