Collect the cards of a single character and discover how their tastes, looks and activities change over time! Unique en son genre (FR) is a card game featuring seven likeable kids, each shown at six different ages, from 5 to 15 years old. On their turn, players ask an opponent for a specific card, much like a classic families-style card game: who will be the first to gather all six cards of the same character? As the questions and draws go on, kids notice that the same character might love knitting at one age and rollerblading at another, wear nail polish or practice archery, none of it tied to a particular gender. "Discussion" cards, drawn along the way, invite the child and the adult to talk about what changes (or doesn't) from one card to the next, opening the door to conversations about identity, body image and self-expression.
Unique en son genre (FR) is right for you if you're looking for a game that gets the whole family talking while having fun. The draw-and-ask mechanic is easy to grasp from age five and a half, but the conversations it sparks resonate with toddlers and grade-schoolers alike. It's a great fit for parents, educators and professionals who want to bring up diversity and gender stereotypes without a lecture, through the fun of play.
The game features seven characters - Axel, Billy, Charlie, Kai, Lou, Sacha and Taylor - each shown at six ages (5, 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15), for a total of 42 character cards that show how tastes and appearance change over time, regardless of gender. The 18 "Discussion" cards included with the game serve as a springboard for talking about self-esteem with children, a topic increasingly present in Quebec classrooms and homes.
