*French version
Long before the Inca Empire was founded, four divine brothers and four divine sisters, the Ayars, wandered the Andes in search of fertile land to build a civilization. In Ayar (FR), you lead one of the first clans called to follow their path, learn their teachings, and gradually lay the foundations of the Inca civilization. This mid-weight strategy board game immerses you in a rarely explored mythological story, brought to life through a modular board, double-sided tiles, and polished artwork.
Turn after turn, your clan develops its skills in farming, pottery, weaving, and construction to win over the surviving Ayars. Every choice must serve two masters at once: you need a long-term strategy while staying opportunistic enough to seize tactical openings, because at the end of the game, whichever deity you satisfied least will determine your final score. This delicate balance between Inti, the sun god, and Mama Quilla, the moon goddess, gives every session the tension found in the best worker-placement and area-control eurogames.
Ayar (FR) is for you if you enjoy demanding eurogames where every decision has to answer two opposing goals, if founding myths of pre-Columbian civilizations inspire you, and if you're looking for a game just as satisfying solo as with 1 to 4 players around the table.
Ayar (FR) was released on October 16, 2025, and was showcased at the 2025 Essen Spiel, the largest board game fair in the world. The game already boasts an excellent BoardGameGeek average close to 8 out of 10 after its first several hundred ratings. It also stands out for its dual divine-scoring twist: the very same move can help you or work against you depending on which god ends up least pleased, a scoring reversal rarely seen in eurogames of this weight.
Ayar (FR) was designed by the duo Fabio Lopiano and Mandela Fernandez-Grandon, already behind Sankore: The Pride of Mansa Musa. Lopiano also created the eurogames Merv: The Heart of the Silk Road, Calimala, and Ragusa, while Fernandez-Grandon, an entomologist by training, made his debut with Glasgow. The artwork comes from Ian O'Toole, whose precise style has also dressed games like Teotihuacan and Merv.
