Wazabi (ML)

Wazabi turns one incredibly simple idea into an unpredictable race: be the first player to get rid of every one of your dice. Easy? Not quite. The clever paradox behind this dice game is that the fewer dice you have, the fewer chances you get to roll the symbols needed to lose them. Until that final roll, nobody is completely safe from a dramatic reversal.
Each player begins with four dice and three cards. On your turn, roll all your dice and resolve the symbols you rolled. Some let you draw cards, others allow you to give a die to a player of your choice, while the famous W symbols let you play a card when you have rolled enough of them. Those cards can change the number of dice or cards players hold and quickly reshape the balance of power around the table.
That combination of card game action, luck and tactical decisions gives Wazabi its distinctive pace. You can be one roll away from winning only to receive more dice or watch an opponent unleash the perfect card at exactly the wrong moment. Dice move from player to player, cards disrupt carefully laid plans, and nobody has any reason to let the leader quietly escape with the victory.
Wazabi is for you if you want a family party game that is easy to teach, quick to bring to the table and packed with player interaction. It is especially entertaining for groups who enjoy teasing their opponents, taking small risks and watching the entire game change direction in seconds. With games lasting about 20 minutes and accessible rules for ages 8 and up, it is an excellent choice for bringing kids, teens and adults together.
Wazabi also has plenty of history behind its simple concept. Originally published in 2008, the game went on to win the Prix du Public de Saint-Herblain in 2009. Its central idea has remained remarkably effective over the years: the closer you get to winning, the harder it becomes to get rid of those final dice. That inverted mechanism helps make Wazabi a quick family game capable of keeping the outcome uncertain until the final roll.
Wazabi was designed by Guilhem Debricon, with illustrations by Jonathan Aucomte. Their work supports an intentionally accessible design where dice and cards drive an interactive, constantly changing experience published by Gigamic.
