*French version
Terres de Yokai (FR) transports players into a mysterious forest inhabited by yokai, supernatural spirits drawn from Japanese folklore. In this beautifully illustrated tactical duel featuring artwork by Vincent Dutrait, two players compete to complete sketches of elusive spirits and earn the most points before the game ends.
At its core, the game uses a clever set collection system that is easy to learn but surprisingly strategic. On each turn, players place Sketch cards around yokai piles associated with the elements of water, fire, earth, and wind. Once enough sketches surround a yokai, the player who contributed the most captures it immediately. However, ties frighten the yokai away entirely, causing all involved cards to be discarded.
This creates constant tension between risk-taking, timing, and reading your opponent's intentions. Some cards also feature special powers that allow players to attract or distract yokai, adding even more tactical depth while keeping the rules approachable and fast-paced. Every move matters in this compact duel built around anticipation and clever positioning.
You will probably enjoy Terres de Yokai if you are looking for a refined two-player game with elegant gameplay, quick setup, and meaningful decisions. Its combination of light strategy, constant interaction, and stunning presentation makes it an excellent choice for both casual players and experienced duel fans.
The game also stands out thanks to its strong Japanese folklore theme and the gorgeous illustrations by Vincent Dutrait, well known in the world of modern board games for acclaimed titles such as Heat, Atlantis Rising, and The Quacks of Quedlinburg.
Designed by Ignasi Ferré and published. Terres de Yokai delivers surprising tactical depth inside a compact box, with highly replayable matches that evolve from one game to the next.
