“Best scout in the kingdom.” That’s what Bertrand’s business card says. He wrote it himself. Bertrand has gotten lost in a one-room tavern, in a desert, and once inside his own cloak. But he had never been lost for as long as he was at the Carrefour des Décisions Importantes, the Crossroads of Important Decisions.
The Crossroads is where heroes come to choose their destiny. Left: save the kingdom. Straight ahead: face the dragon. Right: a side quest that gets out of hand. There is one rule, just one, painted on a big sign: “No U-turns. Own your choices.”
(The Dungeon Master, checking their notes: Bertrand read the sign. He nodded. He went left. Thirty seconds later, he was back.)
He went straight. He came back. He went right. He came back. He went left again, “just to check.” In a single day, Bertrand made 47 U-turns at the Crossroads of Important Decisions. He dug a rut. Then a ditch. Then a little pond, where some ducks moved in.
Cendrin, the clerk at la Halte general store just around the corner, watched him all day while selling him road maps. Bertrand bought eleven. He held every one of them upside down. In the evening, the Crossroads guard came out of his booth with his notebook. He wrote a ticket: “47 illegal U-turns. One rut, one ditch, one pond. Ducks.” Then he asked Bertrand where he was going. Bertrand answered, very sure of himself: “Nowhere. I’m a scout. I scout.”
(The Dungeon Master, with a smirk: he never paid the ticket. He never found the office where you pay. The pond stayed. So did the ducks. They never get lost.)
At the bottom of the pond, when the water is clear, you can see seven teal dice shining, swirled and pearly like an enchanted road sign, with white numbers. The U-Turn illégal dice (“illegal U-turn”) were born. They’re perfect for scouts, indecisive rangers and players who change their mind right after rolling.
In swirled pearl teal acrylic with white numbers, these polyhedral dice are perfect for your Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder or any roleplaying game (RPG). A dice set for going back on your decisions. Forbidden, but so tempting.
