Grand-papa Gontran has a legendary memory. He remembers the price of bread in the year 412. He remembers the name of every horse he has ever met. He never remembers where his glasses are, but everything else is in there. And what he loves most is telling his grandchildren stories at bedtime.

The problem is, he never finishes. A story about a dragon becomes a story about a knight, which becomes a story about a knight who has a cousin, which becomes a story about the price of bread. The children don’t fall asleep. They want to know what happens next. And when children aren’t asleep by seven o’clock, someone comes knocking at the window.

(The Dungeon Master, without looking up from the screen: the Bonhomme Sept Heures, the Seven O’Clock Man. A retired bogeyman, alignment “Strictly Punctual.” He came in, looked at his watch and said: “It’s seven o’clock.” Gontran replied: “Sit down. I’m finishing my story.”)

The Bonhomme sat at the foot of the bed, arms crossed. Gontran went on. The dragon met a princess who knew a merchant who had a camel who had once seen an oasis… Eight o’clock. The Bonhomme was listening. Nine o’clock. The Bonhomme was leaning forward. Midnight. The Bonhomme asked: “And the camel?”

Gontran told stories all night. And the next night. And the one after that. Each time, he stopped at the most exciting moment, saying: “To be continued tomorrow.” The Bonhomme came back the next day, at seven o’clock sharp. The children, meanwhile, had long since fallen asleep. They hadn’t slept that well in years.

(The Dungeon Master, with a smirk: after a thousand and one nights, Gontran finally finished the story. The Bonhomme cried. Then he asked: “But… how much did the bread cost?” Gontran smiled. He started over from the beginning.)

On the nightstand, right next to the glasses Gontran had been looking for all along, were seven fuchsia and white dice, swirling like a story that never ends, with gold numbers. The Sherazade dice were born. They’re perfect for bards, storytellers and Dungeon Masters who end every session with “we’ll pick it up next week.”

In swirled fuchsia and white acrylic with gold numbers, these polyhedral dice are perfect for your Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder or any roleplaying game (RPG). A dice set for a thousand and one games. To be continued tomorrow.
