Typierre is the luckiest person in the kingdom. When he rolls a die, it’s a 20. When he needs to cross a river, a bridge appears. When he drops his toast, it lands butter side up. And not just for him: when Typierre is in your adventuring party, everybody gets lucky.

So naturally, everyone wanted Typierre in their party. Knights, wizards, thieves. There was a line outside his door. Those who couldn’t have all of him tried to get a little piece. A hair. A button. His shoes were stolen eleven times. Once, someone stole his shoelaces while he was wearing them.

(The Dungeon Master, from behind the screen: a wizard even tried to clone him. The clone was very unlucky. He tripped over the cauldron on his way out, and now he lives somewhere in the capital’s sewers. He’s very nice.)

One night, Typierre sat on the edge of his bed and asked himself a terrible question: do people like him for his jokes? For his company? Or just for his luck? He ran a test. He told his party his best joke. They laughed. Then they asked him to blow on their dice. He understood.

Typierre retired from adventuring. He opened a little dice shop in the capital, on the corner of an alley. He wanted a quiet life. Normal customers. Conversations about the weather. It didn’t work. Every customer who buys dice asks him the same thing: “Typierre, could you blow on them?” He sighs. He blows. The customer leaves with a smile and a week of natural 20s.

(The Dungeon Master, with a smirk: he finally gave in, but he added a rule above the counter: “I only blow if you laugh at my joke.” Sales went down. Typierre has never been happier: the customers who stay really laugh.)
