The Île-Dodue is a small island of three hundred people, with a bakery, a school and a very serious mayor. What tourists don’t know is that it grew on the back of Pompon, a giant sea serpent. Pompon is very nice. He even agreed to a law: he only goes swimming on Sundays, from 10 a.m. to noon, so he doesn’t bother anyone.
One Sunday, at noon sharp, Pompon stopped swimming, as planned. Then he yawned. Then he fell asleep. When a sea serpent sleeps, it floats. And when it floats, it drifts.
(The Dungeon Master, checking their notes: the mayor checked the law. Nothing said you couldn’t sleep. He added an article. Too late.)
On Monday, the Île-Dodue drifted past Port-Grelot. On Tuesday, it went by the teapot island. On Wednesday, it was floating in the Mer des Brumes, and ghost ships were waving at the islanders. The baker kept baking bread. The school went on a field trip without going anywhere. The mayor wrote 47 letters of complaint. To the sea.
On Thursday, the island drifted to a place where the water turned purple and clear, so clear you could see the bottom far below, and fish reading. Nobody knew where they were. No map. No name. The islanders found it so beautiful that they set up chairs on the beach and stopped complaining. Even the mayor. He took off his tie. For the first time in thirty years.
(The Dungeon Master, with a smirk: Pompon woke up the next Sunday at 10 a.m. sharp, fresh as a daisy. He brought the island back home in two hours. The islanders asked him to go back to sleep. The mayor passed a new law: one nap a month, mandatory.)
On the beach, at low tide, the schoolchildren picked up seven purple dice, as clear as the water out there, with white numbers. The À la dérive dice (“adrift”) were born. They’re perfect for sailors, dreamers and players who head off on a side quest without really knowing where they’re going.
In translucent purple acrylic with white numbers, these polyhedral dice are perfect for your Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder or any roleplaying game (RPG). A dice set that floats. (Don’t test it in the bath.)
