Insidious Sevens is a clever strategic card game that reimagines classic trick-taking gameplay with an engaging prediction system and constantly shifting tactical decisions. Each round, players must accurately predict how many tricks they expect to win while carefully managing colours, numbers, and trump suits.
The game uses a unique deck of cards numbered from 0 to 7 across five different colours. Each colour also carries its own ranking, adding an additional layer of strategy during every trick. Higher numbers always defeat lower ones, but the hierarchy between colours and trump suits changes throughout the game depending on player bids.
Before each round begins, players secretly choose a card from their hand to indicate how many tricks they believe they can win. The highest bid not only determines the starting player, but also sets the trump colour for the entire round. This elegant mechanic makes every early decision critically important and shapes the overall strategy of the hand.
Players must then follow either the colour or the number played whenever possible, creating highly tactical situations where hand management, timing, and reading opponents become essential. Successfully matching your exact prediction rewards valuable points, while overestimating or underestimating your performance leads to penalties.
You will probably enjoy Insidious Sevens if you love trick-taking games, interactive card games, and fast-paced experiences that reward both planning and adaptability. Its accessible rules hide surprising strategic depth that appeals equally to families and experienced card game players.
The ranked colour system gives the game a unique identity compared to more traditional trick-taking titles. This original mechanic forces players to constantly reevaluate the true strength of their cards depending on the changing circumstances of each round.
Insidious Sevens was designed and illustrated by Alex Weldon and published by MJ Games. Its elegant blend of bidding, shifting trump suits, and tactical hand management makes it a smart and highly replayable card game.
