Rome & Roll is an ambitious strategy board game set in Ancient Rome shortly after the Great Fire of 64 AD. Designed by Dávid Turczi and Nick Shaw, players take on the role of influential leaders competing to rebuild the Eternal City while extending the Roman Empire across surrounding provinces.

This rich eurogame cleverly combines dice drafting, resource management, territorial expansion, and advanced roll-and-write mechanics. Each round begins with a tactical dice draft where players carefully select the symbols needed to execute their plans. Dice are then used to construct buildings, raise legions, establish trade routes, tax provinces, and conquer distant territories.

One of the most distinctive aspects of Rome & Roll is its erasable shared map representing the city of Rome and neighboring regions. Players physically draw their buildings directly onto the board, creating a living and interconnected city throughout the game. Building placement follows several architectural and strategic restrictions, turning every construction into an engaging optimization puzzle.

Rebuilding Rome alone is not enough, however. Players must also expand their military and economic influence into Hispania, Gallia, Aegyptus, and Asia Minor. By conquering settlements and restoring Roman roads, they unlock valuable production networks that fuel their economy and political ambitions.

Each character includes unique advisors and asymmetrical abilities, greatly increasing replayability and strategic variety. The Gods’ Favours system, Nero bonuses, and multiple scoring paths create a remarkably deep experience for players who enjoy long-term planning and layered decision-making.
