In Dollars to Donuts, players gradually expand their personal shop boards using long donut tiles featuring different donut flavours and frosting styles. The challenge lies in perfectly matching identical donut halves to create complete donuts and earn valuable victory tokens representing plain, chocolate glazed, deluxe sprinkle, and rare jelly-filled donuts.

One of the game’s most creative mechanics involves imperfect donut matches. When players connect mismatched donut halves instead, they earn Dollar Tiles that can later be spent to purchase stronger tiles from the market. These same Dollar Tiles may also be placed directly into the bakery to fill gaps using donut holes or bonus donut halves.
