In Yokai Septet (or 7 Yokai), your goal is to capture Yokai Bosses by strategically playing cards from your hand.

Each round, players play a card from their hand following the rules for "trick-taking." Once everyone has played a card, the player who played the highest card of the leading suit takes all the cards played during that round.

A new round continues until one of the end-of-round conditions is met. At the end of the round, the winner of that round is determined. In a 4-player game, the game is played in teams, two players against two players, while in a 3-player game, all players compete individually.

The winner of the round is the team that has captured at least four Boss Yokai in a 4-player game, and at least three Boss Yokai in a 3-player game. The winner of the round scores points based on the Boss Yokai they have captured.

New rounds are played until the game ending condition is met, either 2 points for a basic game or 7 points for an advanced game.
