Behind its playful look, Spot It! hides a genuine mathematical feat: every pair of cards shares exactly one matching symbol, no more and no less, made possible by a geometric structure called a projective plane. Sold as Dobble in Europe, the game was the UK's best-selling game in both 2018 and 2019, a testament to its status as a cross-generational classic.
The original concept dates back to the 1970s, dreamed up by amateur mathematician Jacques Cottereau; game designer Denis Blanchot later reworked it into the modern version, published by Zygomatic.
