Root: The Squires and Disciples Deck (EN)
- In stock, ready to ship
In the woods of Root, every faction fights its own way to control the territory, and the standard deck of cards always tells the same story of war. Root: The Squires and Disciples Deck changes that by swapping out that deck entirely for a brand new 54-card deck inspired by the Marauder and Homeland factions. Effects now depend on hand management rather than plain luck of the draw, forcing you to rethink your choices turn after turn. Between broken alliances, shaken-up dominance rules, and a healthy dose of goofs and shenanigans, this expansion for Root turns a familiar game into a playground for experimentation.
You will probably love Squires and Disciples if you have already played several games of Root and are looking to break the routine without buying a whole new box. The deck keeps the base game's structure while changing the end-game conditions and how dominance cards work, enough to surprise even veterans of the woodland wars.
This new replacement deck is the second of its kind following the Exiles and Partisans deck, proof that Root has become a living platform where the designers keep exploring new mechanics long after the original game's release. The product was born from a crowdfunding campaign, like several expansions in the series, which explains the wink toward small goofs and over-the-top situations tucked into certain cards.
The deck is designed by Joshua Yearsley, with art by Kyle Ferrin, the same artist behind the base game, published by Leder Games, which keeps the visual continuity between the classic factions and these new cards intact.
To play, you will need the base game Root, since this deck does not work on its own: it simply replaces the standard deck included in the original box.
