The kami, the great and forgotten spirits of ancient Japan, have returned from the underworld, and they are displeased. In Rising Sun - 2nd Edition, you lead one of the proud clans fighting over the eight provinces of Nippon. This strategy game of area control plays 3 to 5 players in a legendary feudal Japan, where each clan has its own ability, seasonal income and home province.
The game is played over four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, then winter, which ends the game and tallies the victory points. Each season, you sit down at the tea ceremony to forge alliances, choose political actions, make offerings to the gods and deploy your miniatures around the map. Negotiation is at the heart of the experience: deals, promises and even bribes are allowed, but no agreement is truly binding. Battles are fought blind, with offerings and secret bids, and honor settles every dispute: in a tie, the player with the highest honor rank wins. The gorgeous miniatures of warriors and mythical creatures give every game a spectacular table presence.

The game was designed by Eric M. Lang, who is also behind Blood Rage. The artwork is by Adrian Smith, who also illustrated Blood Rage. An expansion, Celestial Influence, is also listed for this edition.
