Arkitec's little green retro television lights up and Miami takes shape before your eyes, one wooden piece at a time. Behind the screen, the sky shifts from bright pink to deep purple as a slender, twisting tower rises above a row of colorful facades in pink, yellow and turquoise, straight out of the city's Art Deco spirit. Palm trees frame the scene, a small sign reads Miami Beach, a boat glides across the water and beachgoers relax on the sand under a big red umbrella. You can also make out the silhouettes of the Southeast Financial Center, the Freedom Tower, the Four Seasons Hotel, the One Thousand Museum and One River Point, along with the Dade County Courthouse, the Cape Florida Lighthouse and the Deering Estate. A free-roaming chicken and a treasure hunter with a metal detector hide somewhere among the alligators and dolphins scattered across the model.

Once all 117 wooden pieces click together, color-changing LED lights wash the scene in a glow that drifts from sunrise to sunset, just like a real Miami day. This 3D wooden puzzle is part of Arkitec's CityVision collection: buildable, displayable and collectible city skylines. Screen-free and glue-free, it's a relaxing unplug-and-unwind activity, recommended for ages 12 and up.

This Miami edition joins about a dozen cities in the CityVision collection, including New York, Paris, London, Rome and Tokyo. Once built, the case turns into a genuine decorative retro TV set, ready to sit on a desk or shelf. The nod to the free-roaming chicken isn't just for fun: wild roosters and hens really do wander neighborhoods like Little Havana, where they've become a lively cultural symbol of the city.
