Waterdeep, the City of Splendors, is the jewel of the Forgotten Realms and a den of political intrigue and shady back-alley dealings. In Lords of Waterdeep (FR), a strategy board game for 2 to 5 players, you play one of the masked Lords who secretly rule the city. Through your agents, you recruit adventurers and send them on quests on your behalf, earning rewards and increasing your influence. You can also buy new buildings that open up new actions on the board, and play intrigue cards to hinder or, sometimes, help the other lords. Each lord also pursues secret objectives that count toward final scoring. After eight rounds, the player with the most points wins.

Lords of Waterdeep is for you if you enjoy worker placement and resource collection, if you want to dive into the world of Dungeons & Dragons without ever rolling a combat die, or if you are looking for an accessible strategy game that still leaves room for backstabbing among friends. Its 60 to 120 minute games suit both experienced players and those stepping up to meatier games.

Lords of Waterdeep won the Origins Award for Best Board Game in 2013, and was nominated for 2012 Golden Geek awards for Best Strategy Board Game, Best Family Board Game and Best Board Game Artwork/Presentation. It also received the Guldbrikken Special Jury Prize. The buildings you construct can benefit other players who use them, creating a fine balance between generosity and opportunism.

The game is designed by Peter Lee and Rodney Thompson. Its artwork brings together several Dungeons & Dragons illustrators, including Steven Belledin, Ralph Horsley and Todd Harris.
